Owner Trainer

At our Assistive K9s, we understand the importance of Face-to-Face Training Support. We offer a tailored training plan and work alongside you to complete it. Our plan is carried out in a variety of settings, including your home and public spaces. We work to the pace of both handler and dog, and we understand it’s an ever-changing plan to suit each client along their journey. Our training is aimed to support you to work towards your goals such as increased communication and fine motor skills, building confidence to access public settings and so much more, aiming towards a more independent lifestyle.

Overview

Our owner trainer program offers personalised 1-1 dog training to help you build the skills and confidence necessary to meet your goals. We can get you and your dog meeting an assistance dog standard in an average of 30 months!

Client Commitment

In order to reach a public access standard of training, you will need to commit to;

  • 1 face-to-face session per week.

  • Taking good care of your dog day-to-day.

  • A minimum of 20 minutes of training per day, following the directions given by trainer and in the training booklet.

  • A visit to one new/different environment with the dog per week. This can be a long walk, trip to a cafe, car journey, beach etc.

What's included

  • ​125 face-to-face sessions.*

  • A personalised training booklet which is built up over sessions, filled in with your trainer but held by yourself to provide anytime access to professional information. This includes cheat sheets for managing challenging behaviours, step-by-step training techniques, understanding ourselves and our dog, routine helpers and so much more. 

  • Open contact with your trainer to provide quick answers to any questions or worries. 

Outcomes

Depending on your individual situation, you can expect:

  • Your dog to be trained to an assistance dog standard as per the DDA, or to an in-home therapy standard.

  • You and your dog be signed off as an assistance dog team, if desired.

  • Your dog to be trained to help mitigate the effects of your disability through specially trained tasks. 

  • To have built your own high level dog training and caring skills. 

  • To have an improvement towards individual goals and a better understanding of your own emotions, improved confidence and a more independent way of living. 

Approximate* cost of $130.00 per session, GST included. This is available to both private and NDIS clients.

Owner Training - Fast track

This can be ideal for those who have experience in training and may progress through training quickly. Or equally as suited to those who may prefer more support and guidance through the process.

 

You will receive all of the above inclusions and outcomes with 180 face-to-face sessions*.

Client commitment:

  • 2 face-to-face sessions per week.

  • Minimum of 20 minutes of training per day, following the directions given by trainer and in booklet. 

  • Visit of one new/different environment with the dog per week.  

​

This fast tracked option has an average completion time of 21 months, for an approximate* cost of $130.00 per session, GST included.
