Trainer Only

We understand that training an assistance dog can be a daunting task, especially for busy families or those who are physically or mentally unable to train their dog themselves. Our Trainer Only Support service will take the pressure off of you and provide a comprehensive training program for your dog. Our experienced trainer will pick up and train your dog without the client needing to be present, teaching your dog the foundational skills before working with the you and your family to implement these in your lives. This can be helpful when working through reactivity or confidence issues, as well as exposing a young pup to a range of experiences. 

Overview

The trainer will provide personalized 1-1 sessions for your dog, teaching necessary skills and laying a foundation for future learning. Weekly sessions will be arranged at a time and location convenient for you and your furry friend.

​Regular catch-ups will ensure you are equipped with the knowledge to implement trained skills in your dog's daily routine.

Client Commitment

In order to reach a public access standard of training, you will need to commit to;

  • Either 1 session a week (av. completion time 36 months) or 2 sessions a week (av. completion time 18 months).

  • 1 in 4 of theses sessions to be face-to-face with client and trainer for handover of information.

  • Caring for and exercising your dog to a high standard between sessions.

  • Implement training standards in day-to-day life following the trainers guidance.

What's included

  • 150 sessions* 1-1 trainer and dog, with one in four being face-to-face with yourself and family. 

  • A personalised training plan to meet you and your dogs needs.

  • Handy information sheets and step-by-step training tips to implement what your dog has learnt and put it to best use. 

  • Routines and checklists customised to ensure the best care for your dog and yourself. 

  • Open contact with your trainer to provide quick answers to any questions or worries. 

Outcomes

Depending on your individual situation, you can expect:

  • Your dog to be trained to an assistance dog standard as per the DDA, or to an in-home therapy standard.

  • You and your dog to be signed off as an assistance dog team, if desired.

  • Your dog being trained to help mitigate the effects of your disability through specially trained tasks. This being utilised to assist with your individual goals and support in day-to-day independence.

Approximate* cost of $130.00 per session, GST included.

Due to the reduced amount of face-to-face support with the client, this service can not be supported through NDIS and may only be privately funded.
